**** A person can lose some of his/her mana by acting in a non appropriate way. On the other hand, people can also diminish mana and tapu in another by insulting, violating or mistreating them in any other way.

A way of helping these people, to restore their energy, to “address, enhance and restore the tapu (sacredness) of people so that they have the mana (divine authority) to achieve their goals in life” is the process of hohourongo.

te wa – moments of encounter within the journey of life (time & space), looking at your lifetime, your goals and how to achieve them

pono – reality, truth, honesty, integrity, revealing reality, calls for honesty in everything that we do

tika – the principle concerned about doing things right, in the right way, in the right order

aroha – sacrifice, affection is the ultimate state of aroha, compassion, empathy, generosity, joy for others

These three principles, pono, tika and aroha are the fundamentals of Maoritanga. They bind everything together by providing a way in which everything has to be accomplished. They give a guideline of attitude towards ones own life and the one of others.

PONO motivates people to act, it places a stand in terms of being TIKA in everything that is done, it reminds people to be consistent in what they do, to do it with AROHA.

TIKA holds people to be responsible to what they say, what they do and how they do it. It is about doing it in the right way, being rightful and proper in every relation, be it with other people, creation or the atua.

AROHA is about love, not only for others but also for oneself, seeking positive relationships, that help both parts to enhance their being. It also acknowledges the sources of well-being and the recognition of seeking after this enhancement in others"
